Striking a Balance - The importance of shifting our focus towards prevention vs disease management
Moderator:

Do you ever wonder why 47.2% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal disease and 70.1% of adults 65 years and older have periodontal disease even if they come to see us every 3 to 6 months? It is time to change our philosophy from disease control to a wellness prevention approach. Join Kerry and learn a framework to lead your patients to accept treatment and comply with your recommendations. She will review treatment strategies and technology that can help move your patients from an active infection into remission or health within a few weeks. During this presentation, you will explore the growing evidence between oral and systemic health and why this information matters to our patient’s wellness. We must change our focus from hard deposit removal to understanding our patient’s biofilm risk. It is time to move our patients into oral and systemic health and stop the cycle of “bloody prophies”.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn assessment tools that can help locate and monitor periodontal and caries disease.
  • Become comfortable discussing the oral-systemic connection with your patient.
  • Review biofilm control techniques for use in the office and at home.
  • Explore treatment strategies to move your patients from active infection into remission.
